Dangerous materials: carriers finally win their case

The transport of dangerous goods in Morocco is about to take a decisive step forward with the development of a draft decree that has been awaited for over a decade. Ratified in 2001 and promulgated in 2011, the ADR agreement is finally being supplemented by an ambitious regulatory framework, subject to consultation with stakeholders in the sector. Approved vehicles, mandatory training and reinforced controls, this text aims to align the country with international standards and guarantee optimal safety.
The dangerous goods transport sector is becoming structured. It still took more than 13 years to develop the draft decree that brought order to this branch of activity. A brief reminder of the facts: Morocco had ratified the European ADR agreement, relating to the international transport of dangerous goods by road, in 2001. The relevant law was promulgated in 2011.
Since then, nothing. The implementing decree had remained pending, since the Ministry of Transport and Logistics has just sent a first draft of the draft decree on the transport of dangerous materials to transport federations and associations for consultation. Professionals have until January 31 to submit their comments to the supervisory authority.
