Multilateral Agreement RID 9/2011 pursuant to Section 1.5.1 of the Regulations concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail (RID), (published in the «Official State Gazette» number 162, dated July 12, 2011), regarding the transport of Calcium Carbide UN number 1402 of class 4.3, Packing Group I in tank wagons, made in Madrid on December 29, 2011.

Regarding the transport of Calcium Carbide UN number 1402 of class 4.3, Packing Group I in tank wagons
(1) By derogation from the provisions in column (12), of table A of Chapter 3.2 of the RID UN 1402 Calcium Carbide of class 4.3, Packing Group I may be transported in tank wagons, provided that the following conditions are met:
(a) This substance may only be transported in tank wagons with tank code (S2.65AN (+)).
(b) In addition to the indications prescribed in 6.8.2.5.2, the tank wagons must bear the words:
«Do not open during transport. EMITS FLAMMABLE GASES ON CONTACT WITH WATER.»
These indications must be in an official language of the approval country, and also, if this language is not English, French, German, or Italian, in English, French, German, or Italian, unless agreements between the countries involved in the transport operation provide otherwise.
(c) During transport, these substances must be under a layer of inert gas, the pressure gauge must not be less than 50 kPa (0.5 bar).
(d) The provisions regarding the tank wagon in RID 4.3.4.1.2 do not apply.
(e) Tank wagons may only be filled up to 90% of their capacity.
(f) Empty tank wagons not cleaned, which have contained these substances, must be filled with an inert gas at a pressure gauge of at least 50 kPa (0.5 bar) when delivered for transport.
(2) In addition to the prescribed indications, the shipper shall put on the transport document: «Transport in accordance with the terms of section 1.5.1 of the RID (RID 9/2011).»
(3) This agreement shall be valid until December 31, 2012, for transport in the territories of the RID States consignatory to this agreement. If revoked before that date by one of them, it shall remain valid until the aforementioned date only for transport in the contracting States signatory to this agreement that have not revoked it.
